Dental  Health Check

The first step to a healthy smile

To all our patients welcome to your dental check-up. Regular dental check-ups are the way to ensure that your teeth and gums are healthy and that you maintain your smile. All research shows that regular dental health checks reduce the need for future extensive treatments.
Everyone  is unique and therefore has different dental needs. Mary will access you to tailor a dental plan that meets your exact needs. This incorporates regular dental check ups, tooth cleaning  and any other treatments that may be required to keep your teeth healthy and looking their best for life.

Dental Health Checks

At our practice we carry  out a complete dental health check at all check-up visits. We access your dental health in certain key areas. These will help us understand and achieve your dental goals and needs, to provide a healthy, happy smile.

We will ask you
  1. How healthy do you feel your teeth and gums are?
  2. What are your dental concerns or problems?
  3. Medical and general health discussion. Your general health is important to us and it can effect the health of your teeth and gums
  4. How happy are you with your smile? How happy do you feel about the colour and shape of your teeth and fillings?

Then we will do an
  1. Examination of your teeth to make sure there are no signs of decay, wear or chips.
  2. Examination of  your existing fillings, crowns, bridges, dentures to ensure that they are secure and healthy.
  3. Examination of your gums for health. It is important to detect gum disease in the early stages. Gum disease has been linked with heart disease.
  4. Examination for the presence of plaque and tartar. Plaque and tartar can build up around teeth and it is the main cause of tooth decay, gum disease and tooth loss.
  5. Examination of the tongue, lips, cheeks for health. We always perform a mouth cancer screening as part of your dental health check. Early detection increases the chances of survival.
  6. Examination of jaw  and jaw muscles for health to ensure that there no problems that could be affecting your ability to chew or causing you discomfort.
  7. Examination of how the teeth meet and bite together. This is to ensure there is no signs of excessive wear on your teeth.

You may also require dental x-rays  to examination inside, under and between teeth and to check the health of the bone supporting the teeth.
